Strathcona County -
Economic Development
and Tourism (EDT)
supports the department’s objectives with the “three pillars” of social, economic and environmental values (SEE).

While the department promotes growth, prosperity and well-being for businesses operating in the County and Capital Region, ensuring sustainability in the three pillars is always a top priority. Economic Development and Tourism develops and supports opportunities and solutions for all relevant stakeholders.

Economic Development
EDT strives to fulfill the fundamentals of economic development and tourism through business retention, expansion and attraction efforts. By developing strategies to achieve these fundamentals, the community beneftis from incrcreased assessment, job opportunities, a variety of shopping, and an overall increase in quality of life.

Strathcona County is a specialized municipality with a unique rural and urban component. Being a department within the organization, EDT has a close working relationship with all other County departments. As well as involvement with various stakeholders such as elected officials, residents, regional boards, Chambers of Commerce, industrial associations, and other economic development authorities across North America that provide key networking and information sources.

Tourism
Strathcona County's urban and rural, social and economic mix provides excellent flexibility to attract visitors to the County and region. EDT promotes the ability for visitors to enjoy a urban adventure consisting of shopping, dining, live entertainment and sporting events. Strathcona County is also part of the Beaver Hills Moraine which extends into Elk Island Park and the Blackfoot Cooking Lake Recreation Area. The moraine is home to Strathcona Wilderness Centre and other businesses promoting a cultural, active or a nature getaway.

The northern region of the County is rich in agricultural experiences offering even another rural feel.
