Alberta Advanced Education & Technology
Alberta Advanced Education & Technology Investing in science and technology today is critical to ensuring prosperity and a high quality of life tomorrow. That is why Alberta Innovation and Science is focusing on the application of science and research and the innovative use of technology to shape the future of the province. Various sectors and institutes are involved with research funding available.
Alberta Research Council
The Alberta Research Council (ARC). Develops and commercializes technologies to give customers a competitive advantage. The corporation performs applied research and development on a contract or fee basis, and co-ventures with others to develop new technologies, deriving a return on investment from the commercialization of new products and processes. Their focus is on life sciences technologies; energy technologies; forest process and technologies; and industrial process and services.
The Edmonton
Research Park (ERP)is managed by Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. This 320 acre
park was developed to assist in the diversification of the Edmonton economy
through advanced technology. The Advanced Technology Centre, located wtihin the Park, is a 43,000 square foot custom-built incubator designed to support new and early-stage advanced technology enterprises.
Food Processing Development Centre
The Food Processing Development Centre serves to encourage the growth and expansion of the food processing industry in highly competitive domestic and global markets.
As an integral part of Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development's Processing Industry Division, the Centre is a modern, fully equipped pilot plant and product development laboratory facility. It is staffed with experienced food scientists, engineers and technologists. Centre services are designed to strengthen and expand the capability of Alberta's food processors to meet the challenges of the marketplace through application of new technology and the development of new or improved products and processes.
National Research Council of Canada
The NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) provides a range of both technical and business oriented advisory services along with potential financial support to growth-oriented Canadian small - and medium-sized enterprises. The program is delivered by an extensive integrated network of 260 professionals in 100 communities across the country
National Institute for Nanotechnology
The National Institute for Nanotechnology is Canada's leading nanotechnology research institute. This is a partnership between the National Research Council and the University of Alberta.
Funded by the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta and the university, it involves researchers in physics, chemistry, engineering, biology, informatics, pharmacy and medicine. Researchers focus on the work at the nano-scale (individual atoms or molecules). It is one of the most technologically advanced research facilities in the world.
TEC Edmonton - Technology, Entreprenur, and Company Development
TEC Edmonton provides access to the expertise, knowledge, resources and contacts required to help technology-based entrepreneurs succeed in the Edmonton Capital region.
Telecommunications Research Labs
Telecommunications Research Labs (TRLabs) is the largest not-for-profit telecommunications research consortium in Canada. It is an applied research consortium based on industry, university and government collaboration focused on commercialization of telecommunications technologies.
University of Alberta Research Services Office
Strathcona County has a unique business partnership
with the Research
Services Office (RSO), which is dedicated to bringing new research and technology
to the local market. This relationship has enabled Strathcona County to gain
first-hand knowledge of emerging technologies and innovations. The arrangement
with the University of Alberta is a long-term partnership with a number of initiatives
underway.
The University of Alberta is the largest research institute in the province
and one of Canada's five largest research intensive universities.
