EEDC 12th Annual Luncheon - March 21, 2007
World-renowned economist to address Edmonton's business community
Edmonton's largest annual business luncheon will feature a keynote address by Paul Krugman, one of the world's pre-eminent global economists and an insightful, often provocative columnist for The New York Times.
Named "America's most important political columnist" (Washington Weekly) and "America's most controversial economist" (Newsweek), Krugman has authored several books, including the recent best-seller The Great Unraveling: Losing Our Way in the New Century. He is a professor of economics at Princeton University and his work in economics has earned him acclaim from the economic press and several prestigious awards.
Krugman's keynote address will discuss economic and political trends and issues of global significance ... and offer insights as to how they may impact Canada and Alberta.

Shell Canada updates oil sands mining and upgrading plans
"Shell Canada today updated its long term oil sands growth plans to increase mineable bitumen production to approximately 770,000 barrels a day while increasing upgrading capacity to approximately 700,000 barrel a day."
"Actual timing for Shell Canada projects will depend on market conditions, key economic indicators, the ability to meet our sustainable development criteria and the outcome of the regulatory process."

New Upgrader for Strathcona County
The North Americal Oilsands Corporation (NAOSC) is planning to build a bitumen ugrader in northern Strathcona County which will produce 220,000 barrels per day.

2007 Western Canada Summer Games
The 2007 Western Canada Summer Games will bring together over 2,300 athletes, coaches, officials, and performers from the four western provinces and three northern territories to celebrate the highest achievements in sport and culture for nine days in August of 2007.
Strathcona County has a long tradition of hosting successful, record-breaking local, provincial and national sporting events. The 2007 western Canada Summer Games will be no exception. These Games bring together the largest collection of Canada's future Olympic hopeful athletes outside of the Canada Games. The opportunity to be a part of this celebration of sport and culture should not be missed.
