Shell files regulatory application for Scotford Upgrader 2
Calgary, Alberta - Shell announced today that it has filed a regulatory application for Scotford Upgrader 2, a new upgrading facility adjacent to Shell’s existing facilities in the Fort Saskatchewan area, east of Edmonton, Alberta.
The proposed Scotford Upgrader 2 will be constructed in four phases and process Shell’s share offuture Athabasca minable bitumen production as well as bitumen from the company’s in situ oil sands developments.
Scotford Upgrader 2 could ultimately process up to 400,000 barrels a day of oil sands bitumen into a range of synthetic crude oil products.

New miminum wage in Alberta
On September 1, 2007, Alberta's minimum wage will increase from $7 to $8 per hour. This change reflects Alberta's economy and is part of a plan to attract and retain new employees to the labour force.

Heartland Executive Director named to list of
influential Albertans
Larry Wall, the executive director of the Alberta Heartland Association, has been selected as one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people by Alberta Venture magazine. Mr. Wall has served as the Association’s executive director since it was formed in 1999.

Statoil completes acquisition of North American Oil Sands Corporation
Statoil announced on June 26 that it has received final approval of the acquisition of North American Oil Sands Corporation (NAOSC) from the Minister of Industry under the Investment Canada Act.

Updated version of Greater Edmonton Economic Outlook 2007
An updated version of the Greater Edmonton Economic Outlook 2007 is available online to provide Greater Edmonton businesses with valuable market intelligence.
High energy prices, strong consumer spending, economic spin-offs from strong economic activity and over $50 billion in proposed regional projects will keep economic conditions strong in the Edmonton Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) over the next five years.
Although labour, migration, housing and inflation remain areas of concern, Edmonton's diverse economy is projected to experience annual GDP growth greater than four percent in the next five years.
Edmonton Economic Development Corp. (EEDC) has partnered with the City of Edmonton to develop this update to the report originally released in January 2007. EEDC is moving towards a collaborative approach for developing the region's annual economic outlook report.
Data for the outlook has been gathered from many different expert sources including the City of Edmonton Forecast Committee, the Conference Board of Canada and other external organizations.

Gemini Corporation Acquires Alberta Heartland Property to Support Heavy Oil Market Penetration
Gemini Corporation has announced the partial closing of its land purchase on the outskirts of Fort Saskatchewan. The purchase transaction has been split into two parcels due to certain Ministry of Transport delays relating to 19 of the 102 acres being acquired. This new location will provide capacity to support the extensive development in Northern Alberta.

2007 Western Canada Summer Games
The 2007 Western Canada Summer Games will bring together over 2,300 athletes, coaches, officials, and performers from the four western provinces and three northern territories to celebrate the highest achievements in sport and culture for nine days in August of 2007.
Strathcona County has a long tradition of hosting successful, record-breaking local, provincial and national sporting events. The 2007 western Canada Summer Games will be no exception. These Games bring together the largest collection of Canada's future Olympic hopeful athletes outside of the Canada Games. The opportunity to be a part of this celebration of sport and culture should not be missed.
