New upgrader for Strathcona: Canadian company to build $4 billion project
The North American Oilsands Corporation (NAOSC) is planning to build a bitumen upgrader in northern Strathcona County which will produce 220,000 barrels per day.The company has purchased 1,351 acres in the Industrial Heartland. The land lies between Range Road 210 and Range Road 212 north of Highway 15.

Major projects in Strathcona County reach $16.7 billion
With the recent announcement of the $4 billion North American Oilsands' upgrader in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, the total of major projects that are recently complete, under construction or announced has reached a record breaking $16.7 billion. Alberta Immigration, Industry and Employment maintains an inventory of projects for the province that now totals $148.9 billion with over 1152 projects listed. The provincial, metro-Edmonton, and Strathcona County economies have been experiencing strong growth, high employment and increasing disposable incomes. Then volunteering for the 2007 Western Canada Summer Games is a way that you can cross those three things off your list! For nine days in August 2007, over 2,300 athletes, coaches, officials, and performers from across Western Canada will descend on Strathcona County, and 3,000 volunteers will be needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Games.
Volunteers are needed for various roles: Sport specific volunteers for the 17 sports that are part of the Games;
- Office/clerical positions pre and post games;
- Set-up and take down for the opening and closing ceremonies;
- Sales positions – for all the great Games Gear that is on sale now and during the Games;
- Post-Games positions, helping to get the venues back to their original conditions.
