Upgrader Will Bring Spinoffs
There will be significant economic spinoffs from the expansion of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP) which include the expansion of the Shell Scotford Upgrader in northern Strathcona County. According to Rene Rombout, Downstream Manager of the expansion, the new facility will open up 350 full-time jobs with Shell Canada as well as 100 contractor jobs, when it comes on stream in 2010. Western Canada Summer Games Volunteers

If you're interested in, meeting new friends, having fun and giving back to the community, then volunteering for the 2007 Western Canada Summer Games is a way that you can accomplish all three! For nine days in August 2007, over 2,300 athletes, coaches, officials, and performers from across Western Canada will descend on Strathcona County, and 3,000 volunteers will be needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Games.

Volunteers are needed for various roles: Sport specific volunteers for the 17 sports that are part of the Games;

  • Office/clerical positions pre and post games;
  • Set-up and take down for the opening and closing ceremonies;
  • Sales positions – for all the great Games Gear that is on sale now and during the Games;
  • Post-Games positions, helping to get the venues back to their original conditions.
