Shell files regulatory application for Scotford Upgrader 2

Calgary, Alberta July 30, 2007 - Shell announced today that it has filed a regulatory application for Scotford Upgrader 2, a new upgrading facility adjacent to Shell’s existing facilities in the Fort Saskatchewan area, east of Edmonton, Alberta.The proposed Scotford Upgrader 2 will be constructed in four phases and process Shell’s share of future Athabasca minable bitumen production as well as bitumen from the company’s in situ oil sands developments. Scotford Upgrader 2 could ultimately process up to 400,000 barrels a day of oil sands bitumen into a range of synthetic crude oil products. News Release

Heartland Executive Director named to list of influential Albertans

Larry Wall, the executive director of the Alberta Heartland Association, has been selected as one of Alberta’s 50 most influential people by Alberta Venture magazine. Mr. Wall has served as the Association’s executive director since it was formed in 1999. For more information, please view the full Press Release .

Minimum wage increases in September

On September 1, 2007, Alberta's minimum wage will increase from $7 to $8 per hour. This change reflects Alberta's economy and is part of a plan to attract and retain new employees to the labour force. Visit http://employment.alberta.ca for more information.

Real Estate Investment Network visits Strathcona County

The REIN conference was held in Edmonton this past month. They had the opportunity to tour Strathcona County including the Alberta's Industrial Heartland. Seven buses of about 490 participants were shown the heavy industry areas with emphasis on the development of support industry which result in spin-off growth in the retail sector and increase in housing opportunties. https://www.reincanada.com/

August 3 – 11 Western Canada Summer Games

2007 Western Canada Summer Games explode onto the scene in Strathcona County! Experience the Games and be part of the largest multi-sport event to ever be hosted in Strathcona County . The Games will feature over 2,300 athletes, coaches and officials in 17 different sports. Up to 3,000 volunteers will participate in the event. During this 9-day event, four provinces and three territories will focus on the event in Strathcona County and the Alberta Capital Region. The event will feature a Festival of Culture that will showcase our community, our citizens and the volunteer spirit that exemplifies our municipality.  Passes to the events are available in three different levels ranging from the Aurora Pass : $85/adult, $45/seniors and youth to the Dreams to Reality Pass : $30/adult, $20/seniors and youth.
