National Career Fair held in Toronto September 25 - 26

Strathcona County Economic Development and Tourism attended the National Career Fair in the Alberta Pavillion in partnership with Edmonton Economic Development Corporation as an awareness campaign of the opportunities that exist in the Greater Edmonton region for employment. With over 10,000 visitors to the Career Fair, the buzz was definitely building in the Alberta Pavilion as people lined up at the Greater Edmonton booth for their chance to learn about how they could become a part of the Alberta boom. As we conveyed to most participants, the challenge in Greater Edmonton is not so much finding a job or a career, but more in finding accommodations once the employee has arrived. This fact didn't seem to stifle the excitement of possible future Albertans and with Manpower in the booth next door with actual job opportunities to offer, don't be surprised if your next neighbour is from the Greater Toronto area! More details on the final results of the show and follow-up opportunities for employers will follow. For more information on how to get involved on future "Labour Attraction" endeavors, please contact Erica Thomas at 464-8259.
