Taking care of people's special needs
Family and Community Services provides preventive and supportive social services:
advising and consulting; adult education programs; a family day care program;
and enabling individuals and families to remain in their own homes.
Income support and child welfare are provided by the provincial
offices of Alberta Family and Social Services located in Sherwood Park. Alberta
Health Care covers the costs of all necessary medical procedures.

Services
for people with disabilities
The Robin Hood Association for the Handicapped is a local
non-profit society that provides a wide range of services to people with disabilities:
- Family Support Service
- Early Intervention
- Home Management
- Vocational Services
In addition, the Robin Hood Association provides individual
service planning, special needs transportation and specialized resources such
as speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and behavioral consultation.

Access
to superior health care
Residents of Strathcona County have access to some of the
best medical facilities. The County has a private home health care agency and
two long-term care facilities. Residents are within minutes of the University
of Alberta Hospital, the Fort Saskatchewan Health Centre, the Royal Alexandra
Hospital, the Grey Nuns Community Hospital and Health Care Centre, and the Cross
Cancer Institute.
The Strathcona County Health Centre provides a number of
public health services and programs including, community health nursing, dental
health, immunization, community nutrition, environmental health, community and
home care and community rehabilitation.
After Hours Care
Health First is Strathcona County's new Primary Care Centre equipped to handle
anything from big bruises to broken bones. Staffed with local family doctors
and nurses, it's a place you can go for non-emergency care from 7 p.m. to 2
a.m., seven days a week.

Physicians
and surgeons
With numerous medical practitioners operating in Strathcona
County, residents have ready, convenient, day-to-day health care. In the County
there are 36 medical doctors, seven medical clinics, a medical laboratory, a
day surgery clinic, an X-ray and diagnostic clinic, a pediatric practice, four
chartered psychology offices and a skin specialist.

Medical offices and other services care
In addition to mainstream medical services, auxiliary health
services are also available. Residents have access to optometrists, optical
dispensaries, an eye physician and surgeon, physical therapy, chiropractic clinics
and practitioners, and pharmacies. Residents also have access to Meals on Wheels
and Safe Place, a women's shelter.
