Cycling and walking

Cycling

Visitors love to cycle in Strathcona County. Our paved and treed rural roads offer a smooth ride and a natural wind break. Mountain biking enthusiasts will fall in love with the trails at Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. The Heritage Parkway trail system is a 42-kilometre off-road trail system in and around Sherwood Park. This trail allows people of all ages and abilities to get around town by cycling, running, walking, roller-skating or using a wheelchair.

Walking

There are many opportunities for the public to enjoy the healthy sport of walking, from well groomed trails within Sherwood Park to paths at the wilderness centres or national park where you get the opportunity to view the wildlife at a leisurely pace.

Stroll through Broadmoor Lake Park in the heart of Sherwood Park. This all-season park offers fishing, picnicking, beach volleyball, cycling, walking, an adventure playground as well as birdwatching opportunities in the summer. Families enjoy skating and tobogganing in the winter. Year-round park services include concessions and warm up areas. It is a perfect place to enjoy a swim at the Kinsmen Leisure Centre, a special performance at Festival Place, or a game of hockey at the Sherwood Park Arena/Sports Centre. Golf

If your definition of a "nice drive" is when your ball lands on the fairway, Strathcona County is the location for you. We have golf courses with 9-, 18- or 27-holes. If you prefer, practice your swing at a driving range or take a lesson from a pro. At the end of the game, be sure to relax in the lounge with your golf buddies.

Lakes

Canoe, sail or sailboard on the lakes in Strathcona County.

Elk Island National Park
Bring your own non-motorized water craft and enjoy Astotin Lake.
Their knowledgeable staff will help you interpret the wildlife of this wilderness refuge.

Strathcona Wilderness Centre
Paddle across Bennett Lake and view wildlife and waterfowl! This natural paradise offers canoe rentals throughout the summer. A broad spectrum of wildlife can be viewed by canoe.

Cooking Lake Sail Club

Strathcona County Kinsmen Leisure Centre
The Leisure Centre has recently been renovated making it "Better for you!" This indoor facility is located in the heart of Sherwood Park adjacent to Broadmoor Lake Park. It
features a waterslide, whirlpool and steam room, 25 metre salt-water pool, dive pool with boards and a tarzan rope. Children love the Esso Swim Safe Centre where a shallow warm water pool invites them to play in the waterfalls and fountains. Discover how to beat the heat at the outdoor water park.

Millennium Place Aquatic Centre
One of Canada's largest recreational facilities. It features an indoor wave pool, lazy river, water play structure, and a 10 lane competition pool. For more information call (780) 416-3300.
